Program Director

Position Profile

The GOTR Birmingham Program Director is an integral part of the GOTR team. The Program Director must be highly organized, have strong interpersonal relationship skills and possess a passion for and commitment to improving the lives and opportunities of girls in third through eighth grades. 

The Program Director reports to the Girls on the Run Executive Director. The Program Director manages the Girls on the Run programs and volunteers and is responsible for initiating, planning and implementing creative initiatives to grow the Girls on the Run program in the tri-county region.

Position Responsibilities

Program Outreach and Growth (30%)

  • Implement the Girls on the Run strategic program plan and achieve program goals with respect to number of girls, number of sites and demographic requirements
  • Research events, health fairs, races, schools, luncheons and other places that would be appropriate to promote Girls on the Run Birmingham in a three county region to a variety of audiences
  • Initiate contact with approved events and locations to secure opportunity to share GOTRB information and be responsible for representing GOTRB at events
  • Develop promotional material for attending outreach/promotional events 
  • Work with community leaders, schools and other groups to maximize Girls on the Run success

Coach Management, Recruitment and Training  (30%)

  • Develop and implement strategies to retain and recruit new and returning coaches.
  • Manage all aspects of coach training, including Girls on the Run training, CPR & First Aid, and background checks
  • Enforce all current coaching policies and procedures and generate continuous improvement

Program Quality Management (20%)

  • Coordinate all new and existing sites
  • Monitor program quality through routine site visits, coach meetings and enforcement of all current site policies and procedures. 

Curriculum/Equipment Management (10%)

  • Purchase and distribute all curriculum materials including:  coach boxes, coach manuals, program equipment
  • Manage inventory and distribution of coach and program curriculum, materials and supplies.

Budget and Administrative (10%)

  • Manage program budget
  • Manage Program Database including data collection & information management of rosters, girls, numbers & revenue
  • Manage all coach files, sites files and other program related paperwork
  • Manager all communications to coaches and parents
  • In partnership with the Executive Director, play a role in the fundraising goals for the organization 

Required Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Self-Motivated and organized
  • Flexible and adaptable
  • Good sense of humor and positive attitude
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills in multiple environments and with a range of audiences (internal and external)
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and make efficient decisions
  • BA or BS degree

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Girls on the Run (or other similar youth or wellness programs)
  • Non-profit experience
  • Experience working with and managing volunteers
  • Connections to the local community
  • 5 years work experience

Position Details

  • 35 hours per week
  • Some evenings and weekends required
  • Paid Time Off
  • Salary: $35,000 - $38,000 commensurate with experience
