Register Your Girl

The 12-week Girls on the Run (3rd-5th grades) and Heart & Sole (6th-8th grades) programs are offered twice a year – in the fall and in the spring.

Participants meet twice a week, usually after school, for approximately 90 minutes each practice. Both seasons culminate with a 5K event where all Girls on the Run and Heart & Sole participants throughout the Birmingham Metro area come together to complete the 5K and celebrate their accomplishments.

Before you register, please take note of some important reminders:

*Families will be notified by January 22 if their daughter has been placed on a team.

The curriculum was designed for a group of 8 to 15 girls to facilitate team building and a healthy group dynamic. If a site does not have the minimum number of girls by the first practice day, parents will be notified and refunds will be given. If there are enough girls, it is possible for a site to have more than one team, but it’s dependent upon the number of trained volunteer coaches and practice space available at the school/site.

Finally, school-based sites are reserved for students of that school only. We aim to have at least one site per season that is open to the community. If you are interested in starting a new program at your school, please click here for more information.

Registration for Girls on the Run Birmingham programs is $160 per girl which includes the following items:

  • Lessons conducted by certified coaches
  • Comprehensive Insurance
  • Participation in 5K running event
  • Official program T-shirt
  • 5K medal

Thanks to the support of generous sponsors and donors, we are able to provide scholarships to those who are unable to pay the full registration fee. Scholarships are provided on a sliding fee scale based on household income.

Attendance/Absentee Policy

It is very important for your girl to attend both sessions each week because the lessons build on one another and because their group relationships build over time. Girls are not allowed to sign up for one session a week. If you know your girl can't make it to both sessions each week, please do not sign up - leave room for a girl who can.  A girl who is absent more than 4 times may be removed from the program for the rest of the season.

Running Buddy Reminder for the 5K

All girls in the Girls on the Run and Heart & Sole programs will participate in the Girls on the Run Birmingham 5k on Saturday, April 28.  Each girl should have an adult running buddy to run with her.  All Running Buddies must register for the 5K as community runners. You do not need to register your girl for the 5K. Look for information from Girls on the Run Birmingham throughout the season about 5K registration. We know your daughter will be excited to have extra support along the course!

Save the Date for the End of Season 5K

All girls in the Girls on the Run and Heart & Sole programs will participate in the Girls on the Run Birmingham 5k on Saturday, April 28.
